In Paulding County, Georgia, a man has been sentenced to 475 years in prison after being found guilty of 93 felony counts of dog fighting and 10 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
Authorities discovered 107 dogs on his property during a raid in November 2022. Many were found malnourished, chained with heavy restraints, and deprived of basic care, revealing the severe cruelty behind organised dog fighting operations.
The unusually long sentence results from each count carrying its own penalty, with the judge ordering them to be served consecutively rather than concurrently. It is believed to be one of the longest sentences ever recorded for dog fighting in the United States.
Animal welfare organisations have said the case highlights the scale of organised animal cruelty and the importance of stronger preventive measures.
